Go for a gold-themed wedding, starting from the venue, bridal ensemble, wedding invites and accessories

Gold, in color and ornaments, is as much a part of Indian psyche as our need for larger-than-life weddings. No wonder then, more and more Indians are opting for gold-themed weddings. Here are five ways to incorporate this royal element into your wedding.

A gold-themed wedding | After the bride, it’s the venue that gets the most attention. And gold works exceptionally well in the later hours, lighting up the venue in a warm hue. According to a wedding planner Yogesh Khantwal, Events and Business Development Head of Delhi-based Wedding Rose, there are four things to keep in mind when going for a gold-themed wedding, “The fabric is the most important part of any theme. We reach out to artisans from different states (especially the south) and discuss possibilities for embroidery.

For flowers, we explore the domestic and international market. Book your flowers well in advance or else it’ll be very hard to especially find the ones that complement the overall golden theme like purple (gladiolus, hyacinth, orchids), coral (peonies, double bloom tulip, gloriosa lily) or say, pink (daylily, dark eyes, Angelique tulip).” As for furniture, Yogesh recommends, “White and gold make a royal pair.” The right lighting is also a deal-breaker, “We create a lot of modern themes using L.E.D. lights which gives us proper gold color lights in pandals/farmhouses. “We also use the warm glow of gold at the entrance gate, stage, lounge and the guest area. Sometimes we even use traditional props like candles, diyas, etc.”

A golden bridal ensemble | Tarun Tahiliani has romanced gold for his bridal collection for decades. Sabyasachi, in his creatively mercurial ways, has paid homage to the reign of gold too. And why not? Gold seems to get along with every complexion. On a scale of light to dark, there’s a complementing golden touch for every bride.

Golden heels | Golden heels/sandals garland the feet. Peeping from under the lehenga/saree, it reflects the emotions of the beautifully shy bride. It also goes a long way in highlighting the bride’s beautiful “Mehandi” (henna)/ “Alta”.

A golden invite | With wedding invites beginning to hog the limelight, some even make it to the gates of social media, it pays to give gold a go. Yogesh says, “Depending on the budget, we can experiment with invites and add souvenirs like the bride and groom’s initials, family photographs, coins, deity, watches, bangles etc…the list is endless.” He believes that a good-looking invite goes a long way, “It sends the message that if you are not a part of the wedding, you’re going to be missing something special.”

Gold jewelry | Gold is emblematic of new beginnings and therefore, an indispensable part of Indian weddings. While all rhetoric in their favor has been exhausted; jewelry designers, far from some depletion are creative designs of grace and allure day after day. From big names like Joyallukas and Kalyan to your local jewelry shop, you have a host of options to choose from.
