Once preferred by Hollywood icons like Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, they have become the hottest new staple of a working woman’s wardrobe. Here are a few tips on how to style them

Add a jacket | Diane Von Furstenberg likes to keep it cool and fun and so was her collection at SS 16 in New York. Ladies, take cues from DVF on how to pair a classic leather jacket with a cropped pant. Add an oversized shirt or an interesting top | Summer is all about keeping it casual and who better than Alexander Wang to take some lessons from. His pairing of a satin shirt with those striped cropped trousers stands out. This straight-out-of-bed look is sassy to the core. You can even go for a full-sleeved white oversized shirt and belt it up.

Add textures | If you like experimenting with your look, then incorporating a few statement pieces is inevitable. You don’t have to play the matching game. Pick up pants which are distinct. Take lessons from Isabel Marant. Those harem pants inspired trousers in metal were all the rage. Dries Van Noten’s SS 16 collection was loaded with hybrid fabrics in a blitzkrieg of hues. The cropped trousers with block heels can be a good investment. In London, Christopher Kane’s viper print cropped trousers paired with woollen jumpers made some eyeballs roll. Now that’s some statement.

Subtract colour and go all-white | White is the colour which is synonymous to summer.
