MONSOON-PROOF YOUR SKIN

Get skin that loves the rain as much as you do | Follow our dos and don’ts to stay blemish-free during monsoons

Your skin is sensitive. Period. And during monsoon, it’s as sensitive as a wounded heart. In order to keep it safe and glowing, one must take precautionary measures. Salubrious diet, adequate moisturizing and using the right skin-care product will help you reap lasting health and beauty benefits.

Sensitive screen

Keeping allergies and infections at bay | Eczema and scabies are caused when the skin comes in direct contact with dirty water (and our roads will be choc-a-bloc with that) causing an explosion of allergies and scaly, itchy skin. Shikhee Agrawal of The Body Shop shares how to avoid going down that road, “Use an anti-bacterial cleanser to purify and clean skin during the humid monsoon season. Bathe in lukewarm water and use anti-bacterial shower gel.”

Internal use essential oils

You are what you eat and drink | Our appearance is a reflection of what’s going on inside us. Therefore, the key to a happy monsoon skin is a healthy diet. Shikhee Agrwal sums up the needful, “Eat the correct balance of foods (leafy vegetables and citrus fruits) and you’ll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free. Drink 10-12 glasses of water to keep your skin well hydrated.”

Follow these tips as well | Avoid alcohol-based products and opt for honey instead. It helps the skin glow and heals the damage that the rains might have already caused.

Use sunscreen at all times or you might cause harmful ultra-violet rays to penetrate your skin and cause long-term damage.

Beauty salon and spa

It’s not an irony that monsoons can cause our skins to dry up. It’s an issue that can cause serious skin damage. To deal with it naturally, opt for Shikhee’s home-made remedies, “Make a paste using 1 slice of papaya, 1 avocado and 1 banana. Apply it on the face and leave it for 15 minutes. Papaya not only reduces dryness but also effectively removes scars. You can also make a paste out of avocados and apply it all over the face and body to nourish the skin. It is highly recommended that these home remedies are supplemented by using skincare ranges rich in Vitamin E. ”

Face packs for glowing skin

Monsoon do’s and don’ts | In a few simple tips, you can have a blemish-free monsoon.
Avoid a cold shower as it may strip your skin of moisture. Go for lukewarm water instead.
Use a clinically certified body lotion after a bath. Regular lotions may add fragrance but lack the ability to protect your skin.
At the slightest hint of a bacterial infection, rub anti-fungal powder at the itchy/dry area. Do the same if you have come in contact with dirty water.

Tea tree oil – Organic essential oil tea tree oil

Monsoon must-haves | Your monsoon beauty cabinet is incomplete without these essentials.
Tea Tree Oil: Its anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties are widely recognized. Combine it with coconut oil and apply it to your skin to get rid of rashes and pimples.
Aloe Vera: It’s rich in protein, acts as a natural moisturiser and blood purifier. Apply it in gel form or drink it up as juice, it’ll help keep your skin blemish-free.
Calamine: It’s your skin’s pest controller and treats bug bites and rashes without damaging your skin in anyway.

You are now ready to face any challenge the monsoons might pose.
