THE BATTLE OF THE MINI & MIDI SKIRTS

My Style

Rediscover your love for midis, which comes in several styles, just like the flirty mini skirt, which continues to capture hearts

Midis have been making waves for quite some time now and, in a way, have replaced the classic mini. If you look at stores in India (Zara, Mango, Vero Moda) and around the world, they have more midi skirts and dresses than minis. Not that we are complaining because they look so classy. That being said, minis have been loved for much longer and can never really go out of style.

Let’s first talk about midis and their numerous style options | the bodycon, pencil, and flared. Even though midis have been around for years, our love for them has been recent. Often, people think midis look good only on taller women. However, once you get the confidence to wear them, you realise how wrong that is.

The most important thing is selecting the right top for your chosen style of midi. For instance, a black lace pencil midi is more conservative; therefore, you can pair it with something sexier (bralet, perhaps) to balance the ensemble. If you’re at work, go for a classic white shirt tucked in. One thing we strongly suggest is a pair of good heels, or your legs may look short and stocky. Start this trend with baby steps. You don’t have to wear mid-calf length midis; go for something just below the knee or something that is mid calf length, but sheer at the bottom with a shorter lining.

We haven’t forgotten about minis | They look great and have been looking great for decades. Like midis, they can be worn both at night and day. They also come in numerous styles—bodycon, A-line, flared, and pleated. Remember the bodycon/bandaged mini, which dominated stores and wardrobes a few years ago? We still see them today with a crop-top or a top tucked in. But girls have been leaning towards the flared mini, which makes a more fun and flirty statement. Wear a coral lace bodycon mini with a casual off-shoulder cream sweater in the day. With a flared mini, our favourite top to wear is a shirt tucked in. This outfit can even be worn for a night out. Just throw on a necklace and your favourite pair of heels. You can get away with wearing this to work if you’re in the fashion industry, but a midi is safer.

Play around with the midi trend, get used to it, because it isn’t going anywhere! Minis, however, can never disappoint and have always been popular. So who do you think wins the battle?
