WHAT TO WEAR FOR WORK

Everyone, no matter what their profession, can elevate their work wardrobe by keeping their style individualistic and elegant. Different professions have different dress codes but within that, you can always experiment. We share some tips on how you can upgrade your office wear, based on the official (and unofficial) codes of your workplace

Fashion Editor

Dressing easy and charming, yet powerful, is key in fashion. Be it dresses, accessories, cosmetics or hairstyles, you can experiment in a plethora of ways. However, streamlining and dressing with purpose is important. Clothes in pastels and classic prints (stripes and florals have a wide variety) always work. An all-black look might be cliché but a sexy sleek jacket in black or white is a terrific idea. Remember to complete your look with gorgeous, comfortable footwear. During fashion week, which can be tiring, resort to small heels or flats (think Valentino ‘Rockstud’ pumps and Tory Burch ‘Caroline’ ballet flats).

PR professional

Since you have a 24X7 work schedule, you must go for clothes that are comfortable yet stylish. While meeting clients and attending events you may not have the luxury to change. For times like these, a black pencil skirt is a great idea. You can pair it with shirts in all sorts of prints – polka dots, animal prints and florals. Try black cigarette pants with a formal jacket (take cues from YSL’s ‘Le Smoking’ suit) and add hints of sophistication with a few pieces of costume jewellery such as metallic cuffs or a classy brooch.

Architect

You might be required to visit sites so sticking to a muted colour palette would be great. Pair a casual check shirt with blue boyfriend jeans. Complete the look with rolled-up sleeves and comfortable pumps. You can also go for a long white shirtwith cropped trousers and throw on a sleeveless denim jacket on top. As for your hair, keep it non-fussy – a pulled-back bun or a bob is a good idea.

Lawyer

You do live a life beyond that black robe so show it. Amal Clooney, and Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife should be your ideals. Ditch those mundane suits and pick up stylish shift or wrap dresses in different colours. You can team them with a black jacket if you wish. You can even go for some satin or pussy-bow blouses with formal skirts and trousers. Since your schedule includes meeting clients, presenting cases in the courtroom and spending hours in libraries, it is better to go for practical hairdos that will take you from day to night without major touch-ups. A clean pulled-back bun or a sleek ponytail would serve you well.
