MOODBOARD | THE CLASH OF PATTERN AND PRINT

Eclecticism is the new buzzword in fashion these days. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.

Eclecticism in fashion means mixing patterns, colors and prints that don’t match each other but blend in together. There was a time when wearing prints from head to toe was frowned upon. But we are living in good times; anything that was considered unruly is now making a comeback. A movement started by Alessandro Michele at Gucci, there is a new trend that has registered its presence lately-the clash of print and pattern. Though pulling off a print-and-pattern look can be a little tricky, if styled well it can surely make a statement. Prints all over can be monotonous, so experiment pairing them with different patterns in a variety of textures.

Summer is ideal for such experimentation. If you are the adventurous sorts then infusing colours in your wardrobe and pairing prints with patterns can be a total win-win. Be it the laser cut applique pattern at Pankaj Nidhi or the head-to-toe prints at Prada or Jonathan Saunders, this season is all about being loud and embracing the dramatic. Having a dress in striking graphic prints is important. You can even pair a striped shirt dress with a textured patterned trouser (remember the ones at Dries Van Noten?). If you are too daring you can take some cues from Stella Jean in Milan; those skirt and shirt pairs always stand out.
