REFRESHING BEER COCKTAILS FOR SUMMER

My Home

Three cool new ways to enjoy your beer

Summer is almost here – it’s time to get those little floral dresses out and find an excuse every week to meet your friends and happily gossip the evenings away over several rounds of drinks. This summer, make things even more refreshing with fun twists to how you drink your beer. Try these easy and enlivening beer cocktail recipes.

Super Bowl Shandy (from Camille Styles)

The British sure know how to do a few things right – drinking tea is one of them and making fab lemon shandies another. An amped up version of the classic British shandy, the Super Bowl Shandy is an absolutely delicious citrusy treat. You can put it together in a few minutes with bare minimum ingredients: some blackberries, lemon juice and mint are all you need besides your favourite beer.

Method | Begin by lightly squeezing a handful of blackberries in the glass – then pour the juice of one lemon on the blackberries – fill the glass with beer – add a sprig of mint (you could mush the leaves a little bit to bring out an explosion of minty flavor) – and you have a brilliant drink ready.

Beerskey with Lime (from Cooks with Cocktails)

This is a cocktail of beer with whiskey and lime juice, made sweet not with white sugar but a generous dollop of honey. Even if neither beer nor whiskey happens to be your favourite drink, the combination of the two with lime will get you hooked.

Method | Mix 3 cups of water with one cup of freshly squeezed lime juice and half a cup of honey – prep up a tall glass with lots of ice – pour in the mixture you just made and follow it up with 4 ounces of beer and 2 ounces of whiskey. Don’t forget to garnish it with a pretty slice of lime.

Here is another beer experiment for you – with rum and peaches. We recommend going for the Pisco Reservado, a Latin American rum. You’ll first need to prepare some simple syrup made with mixing sugar and water in equal parts.

Method | This one is going to require some time – so make the preparations one day in advance. Mix one cup of peach nectar, 2 ounces of lemon juice, 2 ounces of simple syrup and 4 ounces of the rum, and stir well. Refrigerate this concoction for at least 12 hours. Add two cups of frozen peaches and beer to it immediately before you wish to serve.
