As warmer weather sets in we look at outfits that are trendy but easier to pull off. Casual, easy and effortless, the shirtdress is a perfect example of that versatility. No longer a prim style, that borrows ideas like collar, button down, or cuffs from a men’s shirt, it has got a chic makeover. From runways to street styling, the shirtdress has been paired with shorts, jeans, skirts, or simply as it is. Reasons enough to make it a must-have in every wardrobe!

It has emerged as one of the key trends during Spring/Summer ’15 collection of major runway shows, with designers adding their own touch and style to each piece.

Dior’s Spring/Summer ’15 collection had a series of billowy white cotton embellished shirtdresses that had a youthful purity about them. Jason Wu showed his appreciation for perfect cut and subtlety with dark coloured silk shirtdresses. Nina Ricci once again infused the charms of femininity into their delicate collection. Their cotton voile Victorian shirtdresses, are ultra light and ultra feminine. Saint Laurent, on the other hand, teamed his chequered printed shirtdresses with masculine jackets and long thigh-high boots. Balenciaga shirtdresses are a combination of innocence and sporty chic in silky, cape-backed bibbed styles.

Diane Von Furstenberg’s collection is a fitting display of female power. Fun, flirty shirtdresses are intrinsic to her collection. What caught our attention was the baby-pink toile Mikado shirt dress that would accentuate the wearers’ carefree attitude.

The designs seen on the runways had a variety of accessories for the shirtdress. Belts, chunky jewellery, sneakers or heels, flip flops or boots, layers or simply plain, bucket bags or back pack. It couldn’t get more comfortable and trendy than this.
