Designer Sarita Handa on eight ways to make neutral rooms anything but dull
From bright colors to neon shades and monochrome tones, the world of interiors is forever buzzing with trends. Sarita Handa, a force in fashion to be reckoned with, shares with us some incredible tips to elevate neutral themed spaces. Take notes!
Use a vibrant wallpaper. It adds charm to any space, whether pasted on a single wall in the room or all.
Paint is always an easy and fast way to brighten up a wall. If your room is filled with neutral furniture, cover a wall in a favorite color and add hints of that color throughout the space with decorative pillows and cushions.
If wallpapering or painting the wall isn’t an option, invest in beautiful window treatments. Curtains or roman blinds in a bright damask or multi-colored embroidery immediately uplift the décor.
If your sofa is neutral toned, re-upholster side chairs in statement fabrics with floral or ikat print, or suzani needlework.
Don’t forget the floor. Layering neutral and patterned rugs add a whole new dimension.
Oil paintings, photographs, framed embroidered fabrics are all easy ways to spruce and lighten up the design of a room.
Indoor plants and fresh flowers are a must.
Lighting is a key factor in changing the mood of an area. Have a statement chandelier or table lamp, and preferably use a light pink bulb over a bright white one. The glow of the former is softer and makes the room appear calmer.
