With a vision to build the gap between raw conventional fabrics and luxury, the brand’s journey with handlooms started in 2008 under the helm of the designer Sanjay Garg, since then the brand has crafted a host of finest and well-acclaimed collections – Gayatri, Jodha Bai, Heer, Radha, Shamiana and Bag, to name a few brilliant ones. Raw Mango is a perfectly romantic love affair between old fabrics, heritage techniques, and style that celebrates Indian aesthetic with sarees, kurtas, dhotis, among others.

Jamdani – the inspiration
The latest ‘Sooti’ collection is particularly inspired by the ingenious Jamdani craft that was rooted during the Mughal reign and the name ‘Jama’ has also emerged from the Parisian origin only, which means ‘dress’. Prior to the Mughal influence in its craft, Jamdani was made for local use, but under the care of the royal patrons, interesting Parisian motifs were added to the conventional layout of the fabric.

Sooti, Summer 2019 – the collection
Where Jamdani was supposed to be a translucent canvas with lighter (almost negligible) motifs, this collection boasts of a light and shadow effect, which is woven with denser traditional motifs on a sheer base fabric in hues of red, blue, yellow, white and pastels. The highlights also include the use of satin borders that are weaved to achieve a saturated jewel-like coloured border, silver zari handwoven on Bengal cotton, watermarked hues, and cooling whites resembling dhotis.

This remarkable summer range of ‘Sooti’ includes an array of sarees – Noor, Salma, Souendri, Saashi, Shiuli, Samdura, and Urmi – named as beautiful and soothing as the collection, and a couple of kurta and trouser elements as well.

Speaking of the beautiful campaign and direction of the collection, the whole fusion of Bengal and Mughal interpretations have been well presented amidst the landscape of hardy, drought-resistant vegetation in Sariska, Rajasthan that vividly reflects the authentic-raw roots of the collection.
