Fashion

A comprehensive guide of shoes and jewelry that made headlines on the runways of Fall/Winter 2016 | A trend report

Jewelry Trends it appears, is slated to be both dainty and chunky this fall. While this may widen one’s options, it may also lead to confusion in terms of “when-wear-what?” Here are the top trends to choose from.

Winter 2016 – trending jewelry collection

Ear trends | Balenciaga’s ear cuffs with their heavily-pearl studded designs, Dior’s double chain earrings and JW Anderson’s light, geometric variations for the ear are inspired picks. Among other hi-profile designs are Donna Karan’s multiple earrings, Loewe’s mix ‘n’ match, Isabel Marant’s single earring (more an idea than a statement), Marni’s gigantic 60s hoops, and Armani’s kaleidoscopic button earrings.

Neck trends |In the necklace department, crystal ruled the roost with Lanvin’s mammothian creations. Pearls too are having their day in the sun, with Stella McCartney’s knotted pearl necklace. Chunky is chunky does when it comes to Dries Van Noten’s flower necklaces that create a wreath like effect around the neck. Hermes’s jewelry harness, complete with baby belts, gems and chains, is perfect for your inner thuggie!

Check out Nina Ricci’s Charleston bracelets that fall like see-through curtains down the wrist. Nothing short of what Cleopatra would have ordered!

Wrist trends | Did you know wrist cuffs are a thing now? Chanel shows your delicate wrists some love with their padded, quilted and cozy wrist cuffs. Check out Nina Ricci’s Charleston bracelets that fall like see-through curtains on and down the wrist. Nothing short of what Cleopatra would have ordered for herself! And if you thought that’s enough, lean over to Tom Ford and what you’ll find is a neck embraced in Medusa’s snakes, hissing sexy all over! For some light, girly, cheerleader kinda fun, turn to Burberry Prorsum for their pom-pom bracelets.

Jewelry was at its creative best this year and especially this season. But there’s one that takes the cake – facial piercings. Inspired straight from a camouflaged tribe in the Amazon, the facial piercings showcased on the ramp looked creepy and captivating at the same time. We’ll leave the decision to try it or ignore it to you.

We spoke to Vishwa Bhavsar, a young, fun fashion blogger who runs the blog A Cup of Vish, on the trendiest accessories of the season. Along with the ones mentioned, she also told us to look out for “the brooch” and said, “Bold brooches are the easiest and stylish way to transform autumn’s ordinary looks into attires that are slightly out of the ordinary.”

Shoe Trends | Suede seems to be the winter leader with its magic. Our pick of the trendiest are Loewe’s blue, knee-high boots, Pierre Hardy’s knock-out knee-highs in corduroy, classic suede by Acne Studios and Alexander Wang, tasseled and below-the-knee ones by Lanvin, Chloe and Burberry.

Vinyl set the wheels of trend in motion with Dior’s second-skin, stretch boots with transparent heels.

Among the other worth a worthy mention are Dolce and Gabbana’s take on classic Mary Jane’s with patent leather and plexi-glass leather heels, Miu Miu’s glitter patent leather heels, Fendi’s white sheep fur boots, Valentino’s patent black leather zip-up boots and Ricardo Tisci’s mid-high leather boots with wooden heels.

According to Vishwa, clogs and mules are flagging in the trends too, “These have been timeless pieces but, having observed the fall trends in 2015, Clogs & Mules have definitely found their spot in every fashionista’s closet. The amount of edginess they add to an outfit is unbeatable.”
