OSCARS 2016 | A STYLE RECAP

The talking point of this year 88th academy awards was the much-deserved win for The Revenant star Leonardo DiCaprio. We also saw a bevy of stars gracing the ceremony in Disney princess-inspired gowns, sequinned silhouettes, and sultry low-cut numbers. As jeweled tones serenaded the red-carpet, we hunted down for the sartorial best at the 88th Academy awards.

Best Actress winner Brie Larson arrived in a blue ruffled ‘Alessandro Michele’ Gucci gown. Best Actress nominee Cate Blanchett won many a fluttering hearts (and feathers) in her mint Armani Privé dress. Alicia Vikander had her fairy-tale moment when she accepted the award for best-supporting actress in a duster yellow Louis Vuitton gown. Mad Max: Fury Road was hot on the winner's list and so was her actress Charlize Theron. She stunned the red carpet in her $3.7 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds and a plunging red Christian Dior gown.

In what seemed to be an utter loyal appearance, Margot Robbie dressed up as the award lady herself, in a gold sequinned Tom Ford number. The surprise entrance of the evening was made by Lady Gaga who (slow drum rolls!) in a white pant-suit cum ball gown creation by her stylist Brandon Maxwell.

Saoirse Ronan paid homage to her Irish heritage (and the Oscars green carpet) in an emerald sequinned Calvin Klein number. Rooney Mara looked every bit ethereal in a cut-out beaded gown by Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. Our very own desi girl Priyanka Chopra rocked the red carpet in a white Zuhair Murad gown.

The picture-perfect moment of the evening was when Kate Winslet (holographically shining in Ralph Lauren) and Leonardo DiCaprio posed together for shutterbugs (major Titanic deja-vu!). Jennifer Lawrence saved the best for the last. She made quite an appearance in a sheer black Christian Dior gown with a peek-a-boo bodice.
