PARAMOUNTCY OF BLUE IN EVERY FORM AT THE MILAN FASHION WEEK

Fashion

From Moschino’s painting like clothes to Etro’s Haute-hippie heritage – ‘Blue’ is the muse

After the New York Fashion Week reigned fire with flame scarlet as the dominating hue, for street and runway alike, the Milan Fashion Week wrapped up with a different say. We saw a cooler shade toning down the fashion colour forecast for Spring Summer 2020 – is it blue? Seems so! Although it’s no surprise to see this paramountcy of the colour for classic blue being one of the contenders in the run to be the Pantone Colour of the Year 2020. What was more intriguing to see was every designer bringing his/her own inventive insight and using blue to be a phenomenal muse for their pieces. From Gucci using the tint in the most basic of ways, to Alberta Ferretti going all-out on exploring the hue in every form, to Giorgio Armani using it in luxurious silky textures, blue dominated the fashion-game on the Milan Runway.

Though blue was splashed all over the Milan Fashion Week, some collections caught our eye more than the others. So, here is our synopsis straight from the runway!

Moschino

Inspired by Pablo Picasso, Jeremy Scott laid a collection that was created like a painting, adding what felt right into every piece. The result was seeing a masterpiece in every outfit whether using simple blue stripes as a base and adding to it the floral motifs or using alternate colour patterns with contrasting accessories like gloves, all created like ‘paint on canvas’. Not to forget the overall use of blue as a base and mixing it with white and yellow, creating gorgeous abstract outfits.

Gucci

From the mind of Alessandro Michele, who experiments with every possible aspect of fashion, comes a collection that portrays how the tiniest of change can do wonders for an outfit. From the complete minimalistic dress dipped in the rich classic blue, to sheer skirts pulling off the best form of contrasts on board, the designer although didn’t paint his entire collection blue, yet created some of the most iconic outfits using the most basic blue fillers.

Alberta Ferretti

The beginning of the Alberta Ferretti show made it seemed like the collection would be full of warm tones of orange and yellow, but halfway the show we saw a shift in tones revealing how blue was actually the primary base for the second half of the show. With one half of the blue-inspired collection leaning towards the ‘70s retro and second half from the fluidity of water, the show demonstrated a blue-themed wardrobe. With plenty of head-to-toe blue denim and fluid blue dresses swaying on the runway, the designer undoubtedly brought the most out of the cool shade.

Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani’s collection does exactly what we expect from the brand’s signature style – luxury. Titled Earth, the collection explored elemental colours thoroughly, including a lot of blue. With luxurious blue silk dresses enhanced by monotone blue accessories and sharp silhouettes of pleated blue trousers and tops, the opulence shined through this seemingly cool tone.

Etro

As one of the best collections of the Spring Summer 2020, Veronica Etro brought her A-game to Milan. Doing what the brand is known for and delving in cooler tones for spring, the collection gave off the perfect visualisation of Haute-hippie heritage. Mixing pragmatic bohemian fashion into blue formals with luxurious yet subtle clothes – like adding dark floral pieces for that laid-back vibe, even in formals – is what brought charm into the collection.

Even though we can’t get our hands on these collections any time soon, the verdict is the same, blue is supremely in Vogue. And even if the colour doesn’t turn out to be the colour of 2020, it has already become a trend every fashion connoisseur wants to shop and ergo, we bring you our favourite statement-worthy pieces in blue for you.
