From designers who championed wedding trousseau ensembles at India Couture Week 2016

With wedding season right around the corner, searching for the perfect trousseau amongst a range of options can be an overwhelming experience even for the most calm and organized of you.

Luckily though, the recently concluded India Couture Week (ICW) 2016, presented by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), showcased the finest from the country’s leading dressmakers. To save you time and effort, here’s a list of designers and their collections we liked best:

Tarun Tahiliani

His collection, ‘Last Dance of the Courtesan’, was an ode to India’s traditional artists. It consisted of soft pastels, Swarovski embroidery, and light silhouettes. The detail that we loved was the use of white-on-white tonal layering. Such subtle colors for Indian weddings are rare, but the designer contemporarized them with the use of pleated textures and intricate ‘mokaish’ work.

Manish Malhotra

Deepika Padukone strutted down the runway in a deep maroon lehenga for the finale of the designer’s show, ‘The Persian Story’. Her blouse, an off-shoulder, might seem a little risqué for traditional Indian weddings but can be a unique choice with a sheer dupatta draped over your shoulders. Or wear it on your cocktail night to highlight those bronzed shoulders and collarbone.

Anita Dongre

Making her debut at ICW this year, the designer combined belted sarees with fringed pallus and long jackets in her collection, ‘Epic Love’. Bohemian inspired, it featured a variety of floral prints yet it was her cape blouses in pop colors that stole the show! Delicately ornate, they can be styled with a lehenga, saree or even draped pants, therefore wearable even beyond your wedding.

Rahul Mishra

A Paris Fashion Week regular, you can easily spot the designer’s modern update of the traditional Indian bridal trousseau in his collection, ‘Monsoon Diaries’. The versatile long-line jackets stood out for us; they can be paired with a lehenga or even leather trousers. Rahul Mishra’s conscious effort to incorporate graceful details is what makes this collection adaptable.

IFM PRO TIP | If you plan to wear pastels to your wedding, amplify the look with a dark make-up palette.
