Wear your heart on your wrist. Our shopping notes on the Cartier love bracelet

When he first designed the love bracelet in 1969 for the House of Cartier, Italian designer Aldo Cipullo was thinking way ahead of his time. He was observing a cultural shift that is topical now, consumerism as a fixture in modern lifestyles and consequently seeping into romantic relationships. Back than, he said, “Love, has become too commercial, yet life without love is nothing - a fat zero. What modern people want are love symbols that look semi-permanent or, at least, require a trick to remove. After all, love symbols should suggest an everlasting quality”.

The design inspiration came from the chastity belt, hence the two ‘C’ shaped golden halves secured with a screw driver that comes with each bracelet. The thought was simple: never take love for granted. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we decided to get a feel for this classic. Our shopping notes below

The gold is not overpowering and can definitely be worn every day because it pairs well with any outfit
The design with two C halves, fit the wrist perfectly as they come in five sizes. Screws tighten the bracelet to keep it in place
The bracelet can be layered with your watch or other accessories easily
With three shades of gold to choose from, (yellow, rose and white) it works on any skin tone

Our verdict | This is one piece that you can buy, wear and forget about as it complements any outfit beautifully. Above all, it’s a classic that appreciates in value. So feel good about this smart investment in gold, and wear yours as a celebration of that eternal classic, love.
