S/S 2015 TREND | CELEBRATE THE 70’S SPIRIT

Fashion

Call it bohemian, retro revival or hippie chic this spring-summer 2015 | The Seventies are back and we’re loving it | A trend report

There was a time when lounging on floor cushions, wearing a flowing kaftan and staring at the stars above was sheer joy. When a pair of sleek, crushed-velvet flares defined you. When the mood was free-spirited and authentic. The feel was Bohemian, Retro, and Hippie. Those were the fantastic 70’s and it’s time to welcome it back!

70’s spirit clothing S/S 2015

Think hedonistic, flamboyant, ‘gypset’ (jet-set gypsy), the inspiration behind YSL’s decision to take 71-year-old musician and icon Joni Mitchell in his new campaign. Mitchell stars in three beautiful black and white images, wearing a leather cap, country hat, and 70’s folk tunic from YSL’s Spring-Summer ‘15 collection. The distinctively feminine carefree attitude and sense of easy movement were seen in many collections this season. In the kimono-flared pant twin-sets by Matthew Williamson. Or Emilio Pucci crochet dresses embroidered with flowers, tasseled ponchos, butterfly-billowing maxi dresses, waistcoats, flares and orange and brown color clashes, evoking memories of the Joan and Jackie Collins, Barbra Streisand, Jane Keaton and Faye Dunawayera.

A great thing about the 70’s look is that they liberate your legs bound in the fashionable discomfort of skinny and lower waists. Women’s trouser waists are finally coming back up and leg widths out.
