It’s old-world charm and chunky statement jewellery on the runway this S/S 2015 | A trend report
Keeping pace with brilliant outfits on the runways is equally stunning jewellery. The choker was the favourite statement neckpiece of top labels, which innovated in minimal as well as bold styles. Richly hued brass was the metal of the moment as seen in the clasp choker from Balmain, while 3.1 Philip Lim’s single slivers of white metal delicately embraced the neck. Chunky chain design was displayed by Christian Dior in metal and Stella McCartney in transparent plastic. Salvatore Ferragamo’s colourful sleek moulded plastic choker looks good with a casual or a chic evening gown, while the Givenchy chokers are richly encrusted with large colourful stones.
Long chains with pendants displayed contemporary styles, besides western and animal motifs. Lanvin and Derek Lam came up with interesting modern designs, while Nina Ricci showed multiple-drop crystals in a single pendant and those from Etro and Edun had a more retro look.
Statement earrings made a comeback at Emporio Armani, Moschino and Roberto Cavalli for Spring/Summer ‘15. While single earrings dominated the fashion scene last year, this year’s new take on ear ornamentation is the asymmetrical look mastered by Oscar de la Renta. Christian Dior presented delicate baubles that had an old-world, vintage charm, while Dolce & Gabbana’s pieces had colourful jewels, pearls and metals imbued on necklaces, giving them a touch of romance.
