S/S 2016 TREND ALERT | PANT SUITS

Fashion

Sleek and elegant, these four kinds of pant suits should become a part of your daily wear

Pant suits have graduated from being monotonous workwear to an insignia of grace and style. Designers and fashion aficionados are embracing pant suits and reinterpreting them as modern wardrobe staples. There is a range of pant suits to choose from. We give a quick low-down to guide you through

Colour | Wear a strong, single tone or colour-blocked pant suit and make some heads turn. Altuzarra in New York and Gucci in Milan incorporated some striking bold hues in their colour palette. The result was some bold, sassy pant suits meant for the daring ones out there. Team with a pair of high heels and you are set. When it comes to colours there is no one better than street style goddess Miroslava Duma to look upto; nobody wears pant suits with as much elan as her.

Fit | For many, pant suit creates a formal, dressy image often accompanied with discomfort. That need not be true. Experiment with a variety of fits. Try cigarette pants with loose blazers like Dior or a suave fitted blazer with wide-legged trousers like Antonio Berardi and Ralph Lauren. Pairing separates of alternate fit together adds personality to your look. Take some ideas from Armani’s SS16 that featured slouchy yet elegant suits. Those dark-hued slouchy suits can fit your formal wardrobe and, when accessorised with some jewels, can transform into stylish evening wear.

Print | Simple is passé. Embracing bold prints is the trend now, at least in fashion. Take some pointers from Dries Van Noten and experiment with lush textures and prints. From florals, geometric to paisley – prints are here to stay. Graphic ones too, if worn the right way, can look great. We can’t think of anyone better than Solange Knowles to take lessons from on how to sport a printed pant suit with style.

Length | When it comes to pulling off a cropped suit effortlessly, look no further than top model Caroline De Maigret for inspiration. The Parisian girl will give you enough reasons to wear one to work. From DVF we learnt how to pair a high-waisted culotte with a short boxy jacket. Culottes also team well with wide-shouldered blazers, as seen at Roberto Cavalli.

So, which one will you make part of your wardrobe
