A collection that will make you revamp your vacation arsenal

The Australian designer brand Zimmermann, known for its unabashedly styled-up boho vibe, is up with the Resort 2020 collection – identifiably another Zimmermann style which spells a summer holiday by the beach. It’s inspired by one of Nicky Zimmermann’s Super 8 film of her family growing up in Sydney and evidently, the vibe could be easily spotted on the cheerful face of the models who walked in those dreamy garments. From the lace trims to scarf details to whimsy ruffles, every design is heavily impactful in a way. Though she may go a little too far occasionally where amusing fashion is concerned, she distinguishes how to design statement dresses that are appealing and statement-making, be it a brunch date or a pool party, you can trust this lady for her high-fashion forte.

Zimmermann’s connotation of Resort 2020 inspiration says “…My mum smiling and laughing, everyone seemed so beautifully dressed and elegant, despite the casualness of the occasions. There was the thoughtfully placed scarf in the hair, matched back to an easy feminine dress or a playful short and shirt set. I guess there’s a little something of the era that comes through in the collection, but I was much more interested in the mood that those films evoke. The flicker of the film, the flashes of golden glow, the happiness and the simple fun of the time.” Isn’t that a complete holiday vibe?

Let’s see what makes the collection so special in our sartorial records.

Sun-drenched florals | Tailored in free-flowing silhouettes, high necklines, long sleeves, and mingled with summer-hued prints and 3D embroidery, this particular assortment from the collection enlivens our mood for a Miami vacation. Spotted favourites on our chart are the ruffle shirts, skirts and midi dresses; the floral scarfs; and the dangerously low-slung bikini combination. Oh, did you notice that chic transparent Vinyl belt enhancing the curves?

Disco age suits | With two picks of this collection Zimmermann became a bit 'too' camp owing to its disco-age references and filled us with the nostalgia of an impressionable young working woman – the pantsuit in toffee brown with white ribbon-stripe detail and the other one in shell.

Hippy shorts | The pink meadow mini skirt and pair of shorts look plucked from the closet of Beatle’s band from the hippy subculture and we’re totally in about wearing them for a walk at the beach paired with a bralette or a white top.

Romantic crochet and lacy whites | One-third of the collection was dominated by white, while some were in romantic flutter lace and butterfly crochet details others were the chic ones with orange-hue taping on borders – oozing glamour either way.

Cane bags | Although all the accessories lined with intricate cut-out detailing be it the slippers or hats but the cane bags with a transparent carriage inside are a work of sheer brilliance. We’d say, one of these should definitely make it to your resort wardrobe for next summer.

This collection is one for the keeps – an exemplary demonstration of fusion wear that will continue to look relevant for a long time. And with this, Zimmermann undoubtedly makes it to our list of the best Australian couturiers.

Pre-decide your pick! Collection is coming in stores from October 2019.
