Learn how to introduce quirk and colour in your workwear wardrobe

Weekend’s perfect calm is followed by Monday blues, and no one wants to go back to the grind. Though that’s inevitable, you can keep the fun alive throughout the week by experimenting with your work wardrobe. We tell you how

Wear a blanket scarf – blanket scarves

Sassy scarves | Scarves can add character to your look. Take cues from Rodarte on bringing quirk to a formal look by just adding a scarf. A bright coloured scarf can be paired with a skirt-suit, or even a pant suit to make it look more feminine. Even if you are a white-shirt-and-a-trouser-girl, you can throw on a scarf which contrasts your ensemble. Have fun with different types of knots around your neck. Do not hold back on prints and colours – the bolder they are, the more interesting your outfit. You can even accessorise your scarf with a brooch.

Floral shirts for women

Printed shirts | We suggest you ditch those white shirts and pick up some stunning printed pieces to go with your formal jacket and trousers. Prints can vary from florals to birds to butterflies and even aztec. Get inspired by Gucci’s striking shirts with bows, Ralph Lauren’s bold yet tasteful shirts with graphic prints or Diane Von Furstenberg’s light shirts with oriental patterns. A bit daring for office wear but try a loose oversized shirt with a belt around the waist to completely flip the shirt notion. To stay office appropriate, you can pair slim-fit shirts with high-waisted skirts.

Smart heels | It’s time to replace a few of those flats with heels. Our current favourite are mules. They have been a rage this season; from wine red, mustard, and powder blue in suede to patent leather heels in tan brown. Oxfords are another great footwear option. Add a twist to your classic and evergreen Oxfords by going for ones which have dual tones or textures.

Perfect accessories | You can accessorise your look with a single piece of statement jewellery. Chokers in an array of forms are trending. From a simple lace piece to a structured metallic one, chokers can add intrigue to your work look. Also, carrying laptop bags or oversized handbags in different colours, shapes and prints is a great idea to enhance an outfit. From viper print by Jason Wu to metallic ones at Phillip Lim to Burberry’s fringed ones – you can take inspiration from a number of designers.

Invest in these must-have pieces to take your office-style up a notch. If there are other ways you elevate your office wear, share with us in the comments below.
