The wedding invite may be the biggest statement you make! It reflects your personality and sets the tone of what’s to come
Weddings are a big deal. And so is everything that makes them so, including the wedding invite, a precursor to what to expect from the wedding. In some cases, it’s a deal breaker too. And after seeing what celebrities are capable of doling out, creatively and financially - tea and honey (Mira Rajput and Shahid Kapoor), gold-plated initials (Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani), ‘Ganjifa’ painting (Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva) - we are wholeheartedly pushing the boundaries of our wallets to make room for a heady invite.
We got talking with Delhi-based designer Ravish Kapoor, who brought his characteristic minimalism to Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty’s wedding card. He says, “It sets the tone of what is to come. Our brand of couture invitations is unique, so when people receive one they can tell it’s something they have not seen before.”
They are in the race to win the status symbol of the year award.
While the need for lavish invites might not cut ice with everyone, they are being touted as contestants in your race to win the status symbol of the year award. And let’s face it, nothing can beat an invite that has been creatively laid out and beautifully (or quirkily) written.
E-invites too, have come a long way from emailing Archies-esque birthday cards. The cooler, trendier, hipper couples, are buying online real estate to share their D-Day details. From opting for full-blown wedding websites to sending cutesy invites on FB, netizens are using the million possibilities of the web to tell the world about their wedding. For this one can either approach independent e-invite designers (with a background in graphic designing and everything) or one of the many online portals that can help you choose from a variety of templates and customize it as per your requirement. According to Mumbai-based freelance e-invite designer Ginny Dewan, “This format is very flexible and lends itself to a series of mails/communication, including teaser and ‘save the date’ and later on ‘thank yous’ at a very effective cost. More so one doesn’t need to bother about printing and posting them to addresses far off, for instance, abroad.” It’s also environment-friendly!
So, think of your wedding invite as a phoenix that’s rising from the ashes of yesterday. And let your creative side (and pursestrings) reach a new high with wedding invites that are engaging, fun and daringly unique.
