SMART INVESTMENT | CHANEL 2.55 BLACK FLAP BAG

Every woman has a secret desire to own something exclusive. For us, Chanel is one of those hidden guilty desires that we long for, save for and go the extra mile for. This is the story of our first Chanel- a classic flap black bag, 2.55 making it to our closets.

The story 

First released in 1955 (hence the moniker 2.55) for Mademoiselle Chanel with her vision on what the perfect everyday bag should be. Every detail was personally supervised by her, and weaved around her lifestyle and memories (but had a logical approach). For example, the brown lining inside was created to find things quickly, in different compartments, and the colour brown was in homage to her growing up in a convent (the convent uniform colour was brown). The inside zippered compartment was to hide letters from her lover. The back flap pocket was to keep extra cash and the long straps, which are gilded in 24 karat gold even today, was to liberate your hands.

Stroking her soft, leathery skin, we knew this quintessential Diva had to be ours!

The trial

We see the logic in the bag, but had to see how it fits in our lifestyle today. Gone are the days where lovers stick by or write letters to hide.

IFM took it upon them to try the most recognised bag in the world – the Chanel classic flap. The first reactions are nothing short of ‘’she took my breath away’ and “I saw her and knew I was in love”. We stepped inside the store and were mesmerised by her savage elegance glowing softly under the beautiful warm lights. Stroking her soft, leathery skin, we knew this quintessential Diva had to be ours! And why not? It’s a Classic and will never go out of style according to experts. Away from the romanticism, here are our shopping notes on that triumphant trial.

Take notes 

It is light weight and can easily be carried on the shoulder throughout the day.
The craftsmanship is precise and superior to any others we have invested in all these years (though they saved us lot of money).
The brown lining inside looks elegant and chic (just like we read).
The shoulder chains, brimming subtle shimmer, (guiled in 24 carat gold intertwined with black leather) make it look modern and classic, simultaneously, and add a dash of that much-desired bling.
The back pocket housed our cell phone perfectly (we tried fitting in iPhone 6s).
The double flap made it more special. The belongings are more secure and this prevents them from falling out.
The bag is spacious enough to hold our everyday essentials (and it’s a lot of stuff to take a woman from morning to evening).

The conclusion

The whole feel was so luxurious that it can make any women feel dressed up in a fraction of a second, no matter what the outfit is. Having a Chanel on the shoulder can actually boost the confidence and create a magical spell. Made with finest leather in France, it’s a smart investment in luxury fashion.
