We bring you the biggest bag trends for SS 2015, straight from the runways| Here are the ‘it’ bags you would love to own this season
Every brand worth its salt presented its latest version of the ‘It’ bag, that little style icon that is defined more by its exclusivity than functionality. We were bowled over by Gucci’s Jackie Soft (named after Jackie Onassis) collection. It comes in supple leather in 5 styles, in a range of colors and skins. Prada offers a double-shaded one, while Louis Vuitton amalgamates the brand’s classic reputation with a look of insouciance. Dior’s Diorama is a great option if you want a timeless, ladylike bag that can be carried during the day but works beautifully for evenings too.
If you plan to indulge in one handbag this season, make it the stylish and practical bucket bag|
Round bags Altuzarra’s launched its first-ever bag collection and the rounded saddle bag. With elaborate braided straps and tassels, this is being lauded as ‘nothing like anything else’. We loved the soft feminine curves of the Chloe Drew bag and the tasselled and embellished ones fromRebecca Minkoff.
Cross-body bags The Coach bags look cool with chunky stitching or the words ‘wanted’, ‘nomad’ and ‘lucky’ embroidered across the front. Rag and Bone’s cross-body is part-sling, part-harness, but it does grab eyeballs with its unique design. Givenchy’s sophisticated Obsedia has garnered a huge fan following in a short period of time.
Fringe bags The flower power theme was celebrated by many designers with fringe. Salvatore Ferragamoinfused it into his handbags with a sleek, modern, bendable clutch decorated with fringe sides. While Armani created a shimmering, bejewelled bag that is elegant as well as beautiful and Pucci did a take on the classic 70’s suede fringe bag.
Bucket bags If you plan to indulge in one handbag this season, make it the stylish and practical bucket bag. The Gucci Bright Diamante Bucket Bagis just the right size for everyday use and travelling. The versatile design can be paired with a mini-dress or a bohemian maxi. The Ricky has been presented by Ralph Lauren (designed by the style icon himself for his wife) in a new avatar. Simply stunning, in a rainbow of new shades, the red one is the most eyecatching. The 3.1 Philip Lim, a small and structured Nappalan finished bucket bag, has a drawstring cinch and a signature chain strap, finished with a single relaxed leather top handle and a slip-out zip pocket.
Modern backpacks Backpacks are a throwback to the 90’s and great accompaniments to the ‘sporty chic’ trend. Jeremy Scott introduced theBubble backpacks for his Barbie collection that were as funky as the clothes. Marc Jacob’s no-nonsense nylon Arigato Pockrat backpack will go beautifully with your bomber jacket.
A word about the season’s hottest bags—the Miu Miu Harlequin Leather Tote and Chanel’s slogan bags. Miu Miu Harlequin sports the plaited leather handle, braided leather body and a longer shoulder strap for slinging across the body. Definitely get it if dressing casual is your thing.Chanel’s slogan bags are a shift towards the relaxed too. Fun and youthful, they have Chanel No 5 written on them, in patchwork, which looks quirky and sophisticated at the same time.
