F/W 2018 TREND ALERT | UNLEASH THE WILD AND FEMININE

Fashion

F/W 2018 embraces animal prints, flowing gowns and tulle

Out with last season and in with the new: F/W 2018 proved to be a walk on the wild side complemented by a return to femininity. Our highlights below:

Animal print
Adventures in urban jungles took F/W 2018 runways by storm. From the times of tribes and huntsman through to gallant wardrobes of aristocracy, animal skin and fur have long been a sign of power and affluence. Leopard, cheetah and zebra prints in separates, suits, dresses and coats made a major comeback this year.

Diane Von Furstenberg showcased separates and coats in bold reds and neon green. Carolina Herrera was a double win with delicate coats in print and faux fur tied in with dressy, fluid silhouettes. Calvin Klein and R13 took it further with turbans and headscarves, appropriate for cold weather. Not ready to commit to head-to-toe? Remember, a little bit can go a long way with a simple scarf or pair of gloves in animated prints.

Flowing dresses
Flowing gowns were not only on Valentino’s ramp, home of the dainty and soft, but on the more brazen Jacquemus’s as well. The latter’s collection featured Moroccan billowy dresses in earthy tones, while Valentino featured beautiful pastels, summery greens and the label’s signature red. Channel the 70s for this look: think of fabrics that move and flow, let it surge towards your ankles, and you’re set!

Tulle
Another rage across collections was tulle, reminding us just how iconic Sarah Jessica Parker’s romp in a tulle skirt was in Sex and the City. The uniform of ballerinas the world over received a high fashion makeover courtesy of Iris Van Herpen and John Galliano. Van Herpen’s inspired creations in organza and tulle created structure and light, while Galliano showcased silk, satin and organza of architectural simplicity.

Which trend speaks to you? Are you ready to prowl, paint the town red or flutter about in frothy lightness? F/W 2018 has you covered!
