If you were not at St. Regis Hotel, Mumbai past week then chances are that you are experiencing major F.O.M.O. due to all the fun and exciting things that unfolded at the Lakme Fashion Week 2019. And even if you were keeping up with India’s biggest fashion event on social media, you probably missed out on a bit of the ‘real magic’ as over thirty designers presented their labour of love on the runway this season. Fret not, in continuation to the opening of Lakme Fashion Week, we have rounded up the best shows witnessed at the fashion gala this time. Read on to find out whose collection shone the brightest.

Day 2 | Sustainable Fashion Winter ‘19

Isn’t it amazing that our country is making such massive strides towards sustainable fashion that we have an entire day dedicated to it! Eco Fashion was celebrated all throughout day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week with a Circular Changemakers Competition, three studio exhibits, and six ingenious collections presented on the runway. While all the collections were equally well-thought and the dedication to circularity was visible in the designs, our favourite turned out to be the most heart-warming show Cotton Champions: Farmers. Crafted together by Canda Foundation, Bext 360, and Delhi-based designer label II.II/ Eleven Eleven. After hearing the stories of two organic cotton farmers, the special showcase began with tailored separates sent down the runway. The designer duo behind II.II/ Eleven Eleven demonstrated the versatility of cotton, with a line of easy wearable art pieces you are guaranteed to wear over and over again. The reason? Handspun, hand-woven, and made out of vegetable-dyed cotton! Its sensation genuinely feels so soft on the skin that anyone’s bound to fall in love with it. This was encapsulated succinctly through soapy bubbles blown across the ramp as models walked across!

Day 3 | Celebrating Festive Glamour

Every season one designer or the other takes us on a ride to the era gone by and rekindles immense nostalgia that can only be sensed through cinema today. This time it was Kshitij Jalori who took up the gauntlet of recreating vintage enchantment at Lakme Fashion Week while managing to keep things absolutely festive and gleaming. He showcased a collection of tailored jackets, pants, Kurtis, and even sarees cut from lustrous Banarsi fabrics. Besides keeping the glory of Banarsi beauty, the weaves were super fresh and never seen before, hence, they looked uber-cool, especially in urban silhouettes! They are the appropriate pick for the approaching festive season for anyone who refuses to look weighed down by overly ornate ensembles. We are already imagining ourselves in one of the jackets slung over a simple silk saree for the incoming Diwali parties!

Ritu Kumar undertook the theme of ‘Structured Pastoral’ for the 2019 edit and made sure that she nailed it. While her younger label of everyday wearable clothing focused on fit and structure while painting an equestrian palette. Their well-loved prints were paused with laces and placed on flirtatious silhouettes. Mostly reds and blacks dominated the runway with the help of some beautifully-done masculine styling. The B-town bud Tara Sutaria made her runway debut with Ritu Kumar while she walked the ramp in a short black bodycon dress layered over a billowy chikankari top, styled in a pair of thigh-high boots and a fringed belt!

Day 4 | The Blockbuster Brides

Listen up ladies, if you are getting married this November then have your eyes peeled for all the details included in the collections of Arpita Mehta and Anushree Reddy. Presented by Lakme Salon, the Blockbuster Brides show will certainly define bridal trends for the wedding season to come. The Arpita Mehta show called ‘Trentradition’ presented rich cultural heritage through Ahir embroidery with a contemporary twist of Fan Flower intricacies. The gorgeous Ananya Pandaya pranced down the runway as the showstopper in a coral lehenga choli fit which looked perfect for a beach wedding. We are still drooling over the cowry shells strap detail on its choli!

Anushree Reddy’s show aptly named ‘Gulaal’ will sail you through the festive season if you are into pastels! She presented a host of pinks and blues for the romantics at heart who will be attending the weddings as groomsmen and bridesmaids. While on the other hand, she stuck to the deeper hues of navy, rani pink, and reds for the bride and groom themselves. We can already imagine what an optic treat such a wedding would be! The scalloped hem and tulle sneaking from under the lehengas were a stand-out feature of her one-of-a-kind pieces. Not just that, the floral embroidery endowed a certain princessy appeal to the outfits. We won’t be surprised to see the up-to-date brides lining up at Anushree Reddy’s atelier!

Day 5 | Grand Finale’s Luxury and Celebrities

Count on Gauri and Nainika to leave no stone unturned for creating a glammed-up evening. The duo was undoubtedly the perfect pick of designers to close the event; made even better when the creative ladies roped in Kareena Kapoor to sashay down the runway in their Duchess Satin gown with a tulle veil wrapped across the shoulder. The outfit and in fact, the entire collection seems perfect for opulent cocktail parties and black-tie events. While chic-opulence was for gowns, the powder dressing details from the 80s spilt over to the pantsuits, shorts, dresses, and overskirts as well! You could clearly trace the designer’s admiration for style icon Audrey Hepburn, Joan Collins, and Vivien Leigh. Even the collection’s flower texturization was inspired by vintage posters. Believe us when we say it,  the ‘gown sisters’ will reinstate your faith in old-world charm and feminine glamour.
