My Style

Time to place an autumn twist in your summer makeup collection

Imagine boots, deep-tonal outfits, colourful autumn leaves, and your makeup on fleek and weather-appropriate but does that make up part sounds like an upside-down revamp for fall-appropriate beauty products? You don’t have to! Take the tips from the celebrity makeup artist, Katie Janes Hughes – who is renown and adored MUA having the likes of Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Ashley Graham, and Elsa Hosk – as she tells the secret of how you can pull the summer makeup products and use them like a pro for autumn and winters.

With a little bit of work, you can keep your beauty gods pleased and your fall look on point. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do it alone, we have recommended some best products to make your transition fuss-free.

Tip 1 | Say no to primers

It undoubtedly is all about healthy skin and cute flush on your cheeks but at times the harsh weather conditions can make your skin dry and patchy. In an interview with Elle, Katie suggested that adding facial pads in your daily skin routine will help restore the flushed glow and will make your skin look expensive. In her words, "the skin is always the first priority and the thing you should spend the longest on to look good"; which is why we believe that the first thing to make yourself fall-ready is to switch your primer with facial pads. Moreover, according to the makeup whisperers, primer is of no help in this season, in fact, will make the t-zone of your face looks oilier and dull. Do you need that? Well, peel pad is what you should covet.

Tip 2 | Foundation that makes your skin glow

When the days get colder our makeup choices automatically incline to darker and mattified shade card but the makeup connoisseur, Katie believes in making distinct rules. According to her expertise, you don’t really have to look for fall-winter specific foundation but to add a glowing twist to your existing one by using a generous layer of light-moisturiser or face oil to help keep the texture hydrated and matte at the same time! Katie explains that the addition of face oil in your summer foundation will bring the much-coveted velvety touch to your skin without making it look dry or powdery. If you aren’t up for the layer game then you can also stock in the foundations that come with the goodness of essential oils!

Tip 3 | Tonal eyelids and neon liners

One thing that we enjoyed the most about summer makeup trend was neon-colour lids – be it eyeliners or eyeshadows! You’d be rejoiced to know that this ultra-eccentric trend is here to stay this fall. Katie in the interview said that "One-color lids are my favourite because it can kind of end up being a two-colour ombre look due to the natural shadow we have on our eyes," and we swear by this foolproof tip for this season! Not only will these complement the freshness of Autumn but will brighten up your eyes too.

Tip 4 | Berry hues on lips with layered lipsticks

Just because summers are stepping back, you don't need to stack your corals and maroons to welcome the official berry hue lipsticks, simply make them more expressive by layering two colours together and enjoy the deeper, rustier tones. Moreover, Katie suggests teaming berry lips with neon eyelids to match the Autumns’ playfulness.

Tip 5 | Teamwork of blush and bronze for a younger-looking skin

No matter where the makeup trends take you, blush is always going to be the king element of your makeup bag. Katie says blush will always give you a fresh and chummy look no matter how tired you are. We know that, don’t we? But what we don’t know is the magic a blush can create when layered on a bronzer. To have an even more lustrous flush try the cream-based blushes in place of powder ones!
