Pierre Balmain’s Riad, Marrakech

The historic Moroccan city of Marrakech is a mixture of sensuous luxury and appealing simplicity. The city attracts a fashionable crowd and boasts a great density of boutique lodging. In the middle of the 20th century, Morocco served as an inspiration to many fashion mavens, Pierre Balmain being one of them. The private Marrakech home of couturier Pierre Balmain, today graciously stands as a restaurant designed for dinner à deux. Named as Dar Moha, it plays host to what is very possibly Marrakech's finest restaurant. The 19th-century Balmain’s Riad setting is surrounded by a blue-walled garden, palely lit swimming pool, and lavish decorations. When dining at Dar Moha, do not forget to take a house tour and re-live the Pierre Balmain’s golden days.

Coco Chanel’s suite at the Ritz, Paris

“The Ritz is my home,” Coco Chanel once said. Though she had a luxurious apartment above her shop at 31 rue Cambon, she declared suite No. 302 at Paris Ritz her home until her death in 1971. The epitome of elegant refinement, Coco Chanel Suite in Paris Ritz will come to you as a jaw-dropping luxury. As you step into a room that is unmistakably Chanel, the colour palette of white, black, and beige resembles deluxe connotation. The two-bathroom and two-bedroom suite is larger than life where you can comfortably lounge with a glass of wine. The immense sparkling chandelier, comfy suede sofa trimmed with brass nailheads, the ultra-posh bedding begs, and Goossens gilt-framed mirrors all team up pretty well to make up an ultra-gleaming Chanel’s world. The vintage yet modern suite at the Ritz, Paris screams Chanel where you won’t regret spending a night.

Gianni Versace’s Casa Casuarina, Miami

What if you get the luxury of swimming in a pool tiled in 24-carat gold? The luxurious mansion in Miami, Casa Casuarina will surely spoil you with its extravagance. It was once home to Gianni Versace from 1992 until 1997, the year he was shot dead in the mansion. The three-story villa is an opulent and private oasis in the heart of South Beach designed on the theme of 16-century castle. All the 12 suites of the property have a hand-painted fresco and period furniture. The walls are hung with art specially custom-built for the villa. But amongst all, the Versace signature Medusa head picked out in mosaic at the bottom of the 24-carat gold-leaf swimming pool steals all the limelight. The villa’s baroque interior with Mediterranean feel is enough to take you back to Versace’s old days.

Yves Saint Laurent’s Villa Oasis in Jardin Majorelle, Marrakesh

Hidden within the hustle of urban Marrakech, multifaceted crown jewel, the Villa Oasis is a world-class landmark. Owned by the late French couturier Yves Saint Laurent, the Villa is discreetly connected through several locked wooden doors. Surrounded by vast gardens and towering palms, the home is both an architectural masterpiece and, for fashion aficionados, the most intimate tribute to Yves Saint Laurent. The villa is awash with ornate features – intricately detailed tiles, embellished alcoves, colourful marble flooring and walls adorned with Moroccan paintings. Opened to the public as a museum, you can now easily soak in the life of Saint Laurent.

Pierre Cardin’s Bubble Palace, Côte d’Azur

The famous French designer Pierre Cardin was surely inspired by space. After he designed the bubble dress in 1954, he took his penchant for space-age design further by buying Palais Bulles in the 1990s. His holiday home, a bubble-inspired spaceship was designed by Hungarian architect Antti Lovag. Antii has played with spherical structures which are reminiscent of prehistoric cave houses and Inuit villages. The good news is that you can rent these ten giant pink-terracotta domes and enjoy the panoramic views that extend to the Bay of Cannes.
