Spaces

At Pooranawalla, you can binge on collections that share a stake in history

Something is mesmerizing about the good old days! And what draws a connection with those days is the charisma of the antiques. After all, who doesn’t love to scout for gems through a mismatched shop of odds and ends? If you are one of those, whose love for vintage chairs or old cuckoo clock or a colonial style chest-of-drawers is eternal, we have a one-stop destination for you. Moorthy's in Mumbai has come up with Pooranawalla, a dedicated space that only sells Art Deco and mid-century furniture. If you are looking for few masterpieces for your beautiful abode, your hunt is now over.

Take Home Your Piece of Gem

Ready to enter the aisle filled with vintages and antiques? At Pooranawalla, you can walk through the lanes of history and take back things home. The two dedicated showrooms and an online platform presents an array of items, be it a French travelling trunk, an ebonized piano-shaped teakwood table or a teakwood bench with wrought iron base dated back to 1940. Few other products like 1960s style spade chair and 1910’s chrome-plated brass trolley are something you would definitely like to welcome your guests with. Given the fantastic collection, we can undoubtedly say that Moorthy’s have beautifully brought back the former glory making it all look brand new.

Moorthy’s Love for Art-Deco

Moorthy and his wife Jacinta are Mumbai’s most known faces for antique dealers. From furniture that is century-old to small art-deco that depicts history, you can find it all in Mumbai’s Tardeo neighbourhood. Started as a dealer in Colonial furniture, Moorthy’s gradually expanded into art deco, select vintage objects, and mid-century modern design. For Moorthy, restoration is an art which he has learnt from his experience. For him, each crack and stain, add up to the historic story of the piece and that clearly shows in the commendable curation they hold at Pooranawalla.

However, the city of lights, Mumbai stands on the pedestal of Art-Deco district with many other destinations like Pooranawala. You could visit Phillips Antiques in Colaba and Camelot in Kemps Corner too who also specialize in restoration and resale but Pooranawalla is one atelier who would fall in love with.

So what if you haven’t inherited an art-deco armchair yet? Now you know, buying one is always an option. Thanks to Pooranawala and others who keep the old goodies alive!
